In Canada we have a Democracy that could all end up in the decission of our Governor General Michaelle Jean. First Black women to be on French CBC and very well liked by Paul Martin was inaugurated in Sep of 2005 and is now being asked to play a center role in our Canadian politics. Speaking 5 languages has helped her be a good spokes person for Canada, let's just hope she can defuse the situation.

Dec 6, 2008 - Fuck this bitch man, we don't need her, did you know she spends 30 million dollars of tax payers money? Did you know she was appointed because buddy had a crush on her? What a joke a celebrity speaking for all Canadians. Fuck her!

Dec 7, 2008 - I would rather have her position abolished and have it replaced with an elected president, like in most other parlimentary democracies. I agree she is pretty much useless living in her big Rideau hall home, spending our money when we have poor native people without running hot water and people on streets of major cities without homes or foods and even average Canadians struggling to get by in the current economic situation. The Governor General should be shown the door out!

Dec 16, 2008 - why are we advertising to the world what a bunch of spineless saps we are in Canada to put up with such a waste of our tax money and forefeiting of our soverignty to some figure head of state in the UK.????

Dec 19, 2008 - You should seriously think of entering politics. Your viewes are very in time with getting ride of the fat. On the other hand when you receive people over for a party you more than not clean your house and try to have some sort of organisation to receive all these people. The governor General has it's place in a government, it is our politiciand that need to use her much better.

Dec 21, 2008 - While I think we need to do a better job of picking a Governor General in Canada, moving to a Presidential democracy is not the answer. If you look at the rampant abuse that happened in the United States most of it can be contributed to their political system which gives way too much power to the President. The United States is spending trillions to fix the mistakes allowed by Bush and they have even started to address their wars yet. The petty amount the GG spends is insignificant in comparison

JohnPurvis Says:

Dec 21, 2008 - What we need in Canada is a Governor General who is an expert in Canadian Constitutional law & Government but who also has real world experience. Most of the GG's duties are ceremonial, however they do perform a vital function, like in our current situation. Most of the GG's picked over the past 20 years never should have held the post and were an attempt to pander to minorities. However any minority who is an expert in the areas I outlined should be considered. My post isn't to support racism.

Dec 25, 2008 - Well, democratically elected politicians use a lot of taxpayer's money as well: and they're less careful, since they're 'elected'. The budget is determineed by Parliament, so the people pay the Governor General. We aren't surrendering our sovereignty to the United Kingdom any more than the UK is to us. Elizabth II is the Queen of Canada. I think the Governor General is a very illustrious royal institution worth preserving, personally.
